Holiday celebrations

For High Holidays, the Fabrangen Cheder Community holds Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur services. The services are produced by community members, who lead prayers and singing, leyn (chant from the Torah), and lead Torah discussion. For the past three years High Holidays have been held in the warm, light sanctuary of the Seekers' Church in Takoma Park.

Cheder’s sukkat celebrations include erecting and decorating a sukkah, waving the lulav, and, of course, singing and eating. At Tu b’Shvat we sample fruits and nuts and incorporate environmental themes into classes. Purim celebrations range from creating a Purim Carnival to putting on a Purim schpiel to exchanging shalach mones (treats). Observance of Passover can take the form of a community-wide seder, or a multi-cultural charoset tasting.
